Today, the common and The Frog are places of fun. They are full of people engaging, laughing and celebrating one thing or another. Meeting new people and catching up with old too. Long may it continue...
A Source of Entertainment...
The Frog has always been the eyes of the common and believe us when we say that it has witnessed many pivotal events that shaped not only Clapham but also the country as a whole.
The common was at one point, quite simply the main provider of food and drink for the locals of the area. From hordes of grazing cattle and the perils of the hooks that were used to catch fish in the early years, to a transformation during the Second World War when allotments popped up to aid food production.
However it must be said, the terrain was a little more testing when hand grenade practice was taking place.
War aside though, times had changed. The common was no longer the people’s cherished source of food and drink but rather their source of entertainment.
